On Tuesday at about 9:53 am, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire located at the former Seneca Army Depot at 5786 Route 96 in Romulus.Deputies report that Robert Champion, age 45 of Bob’s Welding and Fabricating of Lodi was welding a water filter at the Seneca County Sewer Treatment Plant when it caught fire from a spark.The Romulus Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire. They were assisted at the scene by Fayette FD, Ovid FD and Varick FD. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the NYSP.Deputies report that the damage to the filters could be in excess of $100,000.No injuries were reported.
