Geneva teen steals SUV, crashes into Jay St. home

A stolen car, a brief chase, and a crash into a private residence resulted in the arrest of an 18 year old Geneva man in the early morning hours of Saturday in the Jay Street area of the City of Geneva.Basset, Geneva, NYRyan Michael Bassett, age 18 of Rose Street in Geneva was arrested and charged with DWI, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and numerous other vehicle and traffic violations. On Ssaturday around 3:00 am, a Geneva police officer was involved in a pursuit of a stolen car on Pulteney Street. After a brief pursuit on Jay Street, the suspect crashed the stolen SUV, into a residence at 33 Jay Street causing damage to the guardrail and front foundation of the house. Bassett was then taken into custody at the scene of the accident.Bassett was not injured in the crash, but was seen by Geneva General Hospital and released. The pursuing police officer suffered an ankle injury at the time of the arrest.Fortunately, nobody was in the house at 33 Jay Street at the time of the crash.Ryan Michael Bassett was held and sent on bail to Ontario County Jail to re-appear on Monday morning.
