The Wayne varsity football team traveled south to Phelps on Friday night to face Midlakes and forced six turnovers on their way to a 49-23 victory.Tom Goebel forced three fumbles and returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the defensive effort.On offense, Nathan Currier threw for 172 yards and four touchdowns, two to Justin Morrison and one to Mike Hollenbeck. Morrison had a particularly big night with 186 yards rushing and a touchdown to go along with 94 yards receiving and two TD’s.For Midlakes (0-2), Jeryd Graham carried the load with 35 carries for 181 yards and a touchdown. Mason Jones and Joe Newland each scored one touchdown on the ground.Next week Wayne (2-0) will travel to face undefeated Newark (2-0) on Friday night while Midlakes will hit the road to face Geneva (2-0).
