On 09/01/13 at approximately 8:15 pm, the Seneca Falls Police Department arrested Richard J. Akins, age 45, of Chapel Street in Seneca Falls following a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the town. Town police state they received a report of a male driver that rear-ended another vehicle at Fall Street and Rumsey Street intersection. The male driver then fled the scene and headed down Rumsey Street.A description of the vehicle was given to police and a vehicle matching the description was observed traveling down Chapel Street. Police state that when they went to approach Akins he ignored officers’s verbal commands and attempted to walk away from officers as they were attempting to interview him.Further investigation revealed Akins to be operating the motor vehicle while having a revoked non-driver ID only and it was also determined by police that he was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.He faces multiple vehicle and traffic related offenses including DWI, Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.He was also charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree and arraigned on all charges in Fayette Town Court. He was committed to SCCF on $2000 Cash/$4000 Bond and has to reappear in Fayette Town Court for a felony hearing on 09/04/13 at 6:30 p.m. to answer the charges.Seneca County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the arrest.
