Elderly couple killed in Fayette one-car crash

On Sunday, at 11:27 am, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a fatal one car motor vehicle accident on route 96A in Fayette.A vehicle being driven by Philip J. Gaboury, age 85 of Lehigh Station Road in Henrietta was north bound on State Route 96a in the Town of Fayette. The vehicle he was driving drifted off the east shoulder of the roadway, Gaboury over corrected and crossed the center line of the road. The vehicle then left the west side of the road and struck a guide rail. The vehicle continued in a northwesterly direction and struck some trees before coming to rest.A passenger in the vehicle Rose M. Gaboury, age 86 of the same address, and the driver sustained numerous internal injuries and were extricated from the vehicle by members of the Varick Fire Department. Both occupants were treated at the scene by South Seneca and Finger lakes Ambulance and then flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where both later succumbed to their injuries. The road was closed for about 4 hours while Sheriffs Deputies reconstructed the accident. State Police assisted Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene. The vehicle was demolished and towed from the scene. Deputies report that the investigation is continuing.
