Fox leads by 4 strokes at NYS Men’s Amateur

On Wednesday morning, the conclusion of round one play delayed the start of the second round of the 2013 NYS Men’s Amateur Championship at the Schuyler Meadows Club.Regardless of the delay, the day brought much needed sunshine and increasing wind throughout the afternoon, making for a much different course today versus yesterday.Still, the wind did little to shake the first round leader, Victor Fox (Normanside Country Club) as he carded a one-under par (71) for his second round.“Overall, it went pretty good,” said Fox. “The wind was definitely a factor that you had to take into account but I did my best out there and it worked out.”Fox holds the lone spot atop the leader board with a five-under par (139) overall for the tournament, four strokes ahead of the rest of the field.According to Fox, other than a club change off of the tee (Fox used a 2-iron driving iron today, that he received Monday, instead of his driver), he relied on the same game plan as yesterday saying “it [his game plan] was to hit as many fairways as I could, then hit in the middle of the green”. His game plan may be simple enough to understand but quite difficult to execute, especially this afternoon with the elevated wind speed.Heading into the final day of the Championship, Fox is confident in his game and looking for his first NYS Men’s Amateur title. “I will play as if I’m tied for the lead and if I beat the person I win”.Second overall is Matthew Stasiak, playing out of the Fox Valley Club, with a one-under par (143) overall for the tournament. Stasiak carded a one-under par (71) in round one followed by an even par (72) in round two.In May, Stasiak won the 2013 NYS Men’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship with playing partner Jonathan Clark. Tomorrow he will be looking for his first NYS Men’s Amateur title, as well. There was a cut after round two of the Championship; lowest 40 scores & ties made the cut. The cut fell at 155, ten-over par overall.Round 3 & 4 of the Championship will be played over the course of the day tomorrow. Round 3 will begin at 7:30AM; Round 4 will begin at 12:30PM.To view the full leader board, click here.To view photos from Rounds 1 & 2, click here.
