Pickleball players from several Finger Lakes venues took home medals at Picklefest IV, held this past weekend, July 12-14, 2013. Picklefest is Rochester’s premier pickleball competition, held annually at the state of the art facility at Ontario Beach Park, and open to all adult age groups.Rich Cowley from Geneva and Mark McCoy from Waterloo won gold in the men’s doubles 65+ age group. Rich also won silver with his partner, Barb Thulin from Hilton, in the mixed doubles 65+ age group. Mary Hamm from Canandaigua and her partner, Rachel Rigby from Hilton won gold in the women’s doubles 40 to 49 age group.George Fairfax from Geneva and his partner, Doug Ratz from the Albany area took the silver in the men’s doubles 60 to 64 age group.Mary and George took bronze in the mixed doubles 50+ age group.Laura Dougherty of Geneva won the bronze in the women’s singles open competition.Jay Wehrung and Leslie Morris, who play at the Peeper Valley facility in Burdett, won bronze in the mixed doubles 40 to 49 age group.In all, the Finger Lakes pickleball players made a strong showing in the very competitive Rochester pickleball community.
