On Thursday afternoon, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputies and the New York State Police responded to a residence on State Route 34 in the Town of Ira for a report of an an armed subject threatening harm to himself.Arriving officers located Joshua D. Butler, age 25, at his residence where he attempted to leave the area by horse armed with a loaded rifle and a large quantity of ammunition. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident and charged with Menacing a Police Officer, a class D felony and Resisting Arrest.In addition to the New York State Police, the Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cayuga County 911 Center, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the Ira Fire Department and CIMVAC Ambulance.
