Arrests in Throop as residents awake to burglars

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department has two persons in custody following an investigation into the burglary of an occupied dwelling which occurred on McDonald Rd. in the Town of Throop at approximately 3:50 am this date.Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call from a resident who awoke to a burglar(s) inside her home and called 911. The burglar(s) fled the home when they heard the occupant call out to them. Responding Deputies came across a vehicle wrecked against a tree on Rufus Rd. in the Town of Throop and quickly determined that the vehicle was stolen from Rufus Rd. and that the two crimes were connected. An extensive search of that area was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office assisted by the New York State Police, New York State Police Helicopter, and a K-9 unit from the Auburn Police Department however no suspects were located at that time. A subsequent investigation conducted by Sheriff’s Detectives led to the arrest of two males ages 17 and 27 both from Port Byron. Both are in the process of being charged with Burglary in the first degree among other crimes. At this time the investigation is continuing and other arrests are forthcoming. Therefore, no further information will be released at this time. There is no reason for the public to be concerned at this time; all perpetrators involved in the actual entry to the residence and the theft of the vehicle are in custody. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Cayuga County 911 Center.
