A 49-year-old Lansing woman has died after being hit by a car while bicycling in Ithaca on Wednesday.The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office reports that 49-year-old Harriet Giannelis of Lansing was cycling in Ithaca when a car driven by Kelly A. Elliot, age 38, of Alpine, hit her from behind at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.The accident occurred in the 700 block of Warren Road.According to the Ithaca Journal, Elliot was leaving the BorgWarner parking lot and merging onto Warren Road heading south when she struck Giannelis, who was also traveling south.Giannelis was treated on the scene by Bangs and Lansing Fire and Rescue and was pronounced dead after being transferred to Cayuga Medical Center.The investigation of the accident is continuing and no tickets had been issued as of Thursday morning.
