SF Fire Department gets new equipment dryer

The Seneca Falls Fire Department was recently able to acquire new equipment and new sets of gear thanks to Seneca Meadows. One piece of equipment, a Staber personal protective equipment dryer, resulted in large efficiency gains in readying firefighters for service to the community.Until now, firefighters and first responders would have to wait as long as a day or two for their equipment to dry when wet from service or cleaning, but with the installation of the dryer, six sets of equipment, including boots are now ready within about one hour. This would mean that previously in order for all of the department to be ready at any given time for an emergency situation, they would have had to have two sets of turn out gear, with one set ready at all times. Each set of turn out gear is about $2000, and having to have two sets makes for poor use of resources. “This dryer really improves our efficiency and allows us to better utilize resources,” offered Chief Larsen.New dive gear was also purchased as a result of funds from the landfill for lake rescues and recoveries, as well as a heater and a generator. The heater and generator will be used in various capacities with the fire department.
