Women encounters burglar in Mentz home Tuesday

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a residential burglary which occurred at 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon on Halsey Rd. in the Town of Mentz.A female resident was awakened by her dogs and encountered a subject inside her residence preparing to steal electronics and other items. The male fled out of the rear door of the residence toward the wooded area between Halsey Rd. and NYS Rt. 38.The suspect is described as a black male, short slim build, with short hair with a “Z” or similar type pattern shaved into the back of his head. He was last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt and cut off blue jean shorts. The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the New York State Police Helicopter and the Port Byron Police Department.Anyone with information about this incident or information concerning the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Robert Franklin at (315) 253-1132.
