The 5K race at this year’s Celebrate Commemorate will take on special significance following the Boston Marathon tragedy as many runners will be participating to show their support of the bombing victims. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 26. Entry forms are available at www.waterloony.com and click on the Celebrate logo.“I just sent in my registration,” said Brian Patsos of Syracuse, an Iraq war veteran. “I’ll be wearing my Boston 1 T-shirt to show my support for Boston. I fought for the freedom to run without fear.”“I will absolutely participate as a tribute to the Boston Marathon runners, the injured and the deceased,” said Mary Beth Stowell of Seneca Falls. “My brother, a nurse practitioner, also is running to show support for those who helped the victims.”But the flashiest tribute to Boston and the Marathon victims may be by the Finger Lakes Lunachicks, a roller derby team led by Wendy Miller of Waterloo. Caitlin Cieri, a team member, said the group of 15 women age 18-50 plan to run and skate in the 5K to show support for Boston. “Like Boston, our motto is ‘Keep Calm and Stay Strong’” she said. ‘Our message to Boston is: “We roll on together.”Pre Registration entry fee for the 5K is $20 for adults and $12 for children age 12 and younger. Fees are $30 for adults and $15 for youth the day of the race. The run will wind through the beautiful, historic Village of Waterloo, Birthplace of Memorial Day.
