FingerLakes1.com to webcast Carrying Championship

Have you ever seen a Carrying Championship? This summer will be your opportunity to do so! The first Generations Bank Empire State Carrying Championship will be webcast live by presenting sponsor, Fingerlakes1.com, with multiple vantage points set up around the race course, organizers announced. The championship will be held on June 30 at Ventosa Vineyards, Route 96A, Waterloo. The fun will start at 3 p.m. and continue into the night with an After Party. The Carrying Championship is presented by Finger Lakes Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and Fingerlakes1.com. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes and Beverly Animal Shelter.“The webcast will provide access for people throughout the Finger Lakes and the State, allowing racers’ friends and family who cannot make it on race day to watch the race from home,” said Jim Sinicropi of Fingerlakes1.com. “It also allows racers to share their participation after the race via social media outlets. With obstacles to contend with and wine to win, there are sure to be some very entertaining and candid moments to share.”The Generations Bank Empire State Carrying Championship will be run on a 375-yard course on uneven terrain trough the vineyard. A series of obstacles will include a sand pit obstacle at the end of the course. Teams of two –either coed, all male or all female – one running and one being carried, navigate through the course. The team with the best time wins the carried person’s weight in wine or grape juice. There are two age groups – 16-20-year-olds will compete for grape juice and those 21 and older will compete for the carried person’s weight in wine, up to 150 pounds. “We challenge police, fire and EMT departments, school athletic teams and fitness folks to compete for bragging rights,” said race director Jen Stanton. ”There are many techniques for carrying your partner – over the shoulder, upside down, piggyback – get creative, get ready and get out there!”Practice sessions are being held every other Friday. Contact Race Director Jen Stanton, [email protected] (315) 651-0205 for details.Entry fee is $65 per team for pre-registration and $75 after June 25.
