State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) praised today’s groundbreaking ceremony at Schuyler Hospital and helped welcome the start of a major project to modernize Schuyler Hospital’s technology, equipment and facilities.O’Mara joined hospital officials, and many local and community leaders to help kick off the renovation of Schuyler Hospital that’s being undertaken with the assistance of a $6.45-million grant from the New York State Healthcare Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers (HEAL NY) program.“Many of New York State’s most important reform initiatives are the ongoing initiatives to make our health care system more cost-effective and efficient. HEAL NY grants are wise state investments that support and encourage local health care providers like Schuyler Hospital restructure and streamline their operations for the good of patients, providers and the community at large. This ceremony represents an exciting beginning. The ‘new’ Schuyler Hospital will be a great addition to our region’s system of health care.”The purpose of the HEAL NY grant program was to enable healthcare facilities to deliver more efficient, higher quality care through restructuring and realigning operations.Schuyler Hospital plans to utilize the funds to modernize the hospital’s technology, equipment and facilities in order to meet the increasing outpatient needs of the community – particularly in the areas of radiology, rehabilitation services, the operating rooms, and information technology infrastructure for physician offices.Additionally, funds will support continued growth of the hospital’s successful orthopedics and sports medicine program with Cayuga Medical Center.
