Dump truck overturns on 414 blocking roadway

On 03/08/13 at approximately 10:19 a.m., the Seneca Falls Police Department responded to a one vehicle personal injury accident on St Rt 414 (Mound Rd) involving a dump truck that had overturned and was lying on its side. Debris from the dump truck was also in the roadway and both the dump truck and debris were blocking the roadway and the roadway was shut down for approximately 2 hours.The driver of the dump truck, Dennis J. Verkey, age 42, of Seneca Falls, NY was able to exit the vehicle and complained of pain in his back. He refused EMS at the scene and was transported to the hospital in a personal vehicle by a relative.Investigation by police at the scene determined the accident to be due to a mechanical error with the vehicle.No tickets were issued and debris was removed from the roadway with assistance from Seneca Meadows Landfill employees. The dump truck was heavily damaged and towed from the scene by Route 89 Auto.Seneca Falls Police were assisted at the scene by the Seneca Falls Fire Department and the New York State Police.
