The Geneva Panthers tried to avenge their lone loss of the 2012-13 season and advance to the Section V Class A title game on Wednesday night in Webster-Schroeder.Unfortunately for Brian Miller’s Panthers, it was not to be as Aquinas held off Geneva by a score of 62-54 in the Class A semifinal matchup.It would be the end of a spectacular, 5-year high school basketball career for Geneva point guard Shane Sweeney that included a Sectional title as an 8th grader at Midlakes and a Finger Lakes East championship this season. Sweeney is committed to play football at Albany after graduation.Junior Simms scored 12 for the Panthers who close out a memorable season with a 19-2 record.Aquinas was led by Kyron Allen who scored 18. Aquinas will play for the Section V Class A Championship on Saturday night against #1 seed Charlotte at 9 pm at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
