On February 27, 2013 at 10:38 am, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 51 year old Ronald P. Betts of Stanley, NY. It is alleged that Betts was hunting Coyote on Yellow Tavern Road in the Town of Fayette on February 18th and discharged a firearm from his vehicle while on the roadway.Through the investigation Sheriff’s Deputies also discovered that Betts had a prior felony conviction for DWI in 1986. Betts was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, Possession of a loaded gun in a vehicle. He was also charged under the NYS Environmental Law for Taking Wildlife from a Vehicle, and Shooting from a Public Highway.Betts was issued appearance tickets to appear in Fayette Town Court to answer the charges on March 6th 2013 at 7 pm. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by NYS DEC Environmental Conservation Officers.
