Geneva, Wayne & Newark bound for sectional semis

Saturday night saw three Finger Lakes East teams advance to semifinal games in the Section V boys varsity basketball tournament while two from the same league saw their season come to an end. The highest profile win came as the Geneva Panthers advanced to set-up a rematch against the team that handed them their lone loss this season.Full results from all Saturday’s action is below…CLASS A(2) Geneva 69 (10) Greece Arcadia 59 The Geneva Panthers will have an opportunity to avenge their sole loss of the season on Wednesday night when they face Aquinas in the Section V Class A semifinals. Geneva advanced through the quarterfinal round on Saturday night with a 69-59 victory over Greece Arcadia in Geneva, NY. Junior Simms led all scorers with 19 points while Shane Sweeney and Akia Jackson each notched 17. Brian Miller’s Panther squad moves to 19-1 on the season and are one win away from a championship date at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Saturday, March 2nd.(4) Wayne 72 (5) Greece Olympia 55 The Wayne Eagles are playing their best basketball of the year and they’ll need to continue that level of play when they face #1 seed Charlotte on Wednesday. Wayne defeated Greece-Olympia 72-55 on Saturday night in Ontario, NY to advance to the Class A semifinals. Standout point guard Tre LaMora poured in 30 points to lead the Eagles. Paul Dinehart scored 17, Ben Bobo scored 15, and Alex Phillips chipped in 10 points as Wayne moved to 17-3 on the season.(1) Charlotte 71 (9) Franklin 64 (3) Aquinas 76 (6) Pitts. Mendon 62 CLASS B1(2) Newark 69 (7) Dansville 36 Newark jumped out to an early 11 point lead after the first quarter and cruised over Dansville and into the Class B1 semifinals where they’ll face NE/NW College Prep on Tuesday. Anthony Lombardi led the Reds with 15 points and added 8 rebounds. Jaymee Rosser continued his solid play and finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior point guard Micah Wright added 10 points as Newark improved to 13-6 and moved to within one win of a sectional title game date at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester next Saturday.(1) Batavia 60 (8) Waterloo 37 Waterloo’s 2012-13 campaign came to an end in their second post-season game in class B1 of Section V on Saturday night with a 60-37 loss at the hands of #1 seed Batavia. Freshman standout Nick Stenberg led the Indians with 12 while Brad Steinruck scored 9 in the final game of his high school career.(5) Livonia 53 (4) Penn Yan 51 Heartbreak for the Mustangs of Penn Yan who gave up a 15 point lead to eventually lose, 53-51 to Livonia in Yates County on Saturday night in the Class B1 quartfinals. Eric Johnson and Shane Bloom each hit four three-pointers but it was enough to hold of the late run by Livonia. Penn Yan’s season comes to an end with a 9-10 record.(3) NE/NW College Prep 53 (6) Palmyra-Macedon 46 Pal-Mac’s season came to an end on Saturday night with a 7 point loss to NE/NW College Prep. The Red Raiders end their season with a 6-13 record.CLASS B2(4) Attica 59 (5) North Rose-Wolcott 53 Chris Dean’s 15 points and 7 rebounds wasn’t enough for North Rose-Wolcott who saw their season come to an end during the Section V Class B2 quarterfinals on Saturday night in Attica. Jake Stevenson had 12 points and 12 rebounds while Tyler Norris added 12 points in the losing effort.
