Geneva, Wayne & W’loo advance Wednesday night

First round of Boys Varsity Basketball Sectionals continued on Wednesday night across upstate New York. It was a night that saw many top seeds advance to the quarterfinals and a handful of Finger Lakes area teams whose seasons came to an abrupt end.Below are all the results from Wednesday night’s action:CLASS A Full Class A Brackets(2) Geneva 73 (15) Eastridge 51 The Finger Lakes East champions began postseason play on Wednesday night by hosting Eastridge. The Panthers easily advanced to the quarterfinals with a 73-51 victory. Coach Brian Miller’s squad was led by senior point guard Shane Sweeney who led all scorers with 20. Junior Sims had 12 while Akia Jackson scored 10. Geneva moves to 18-1 on the season and will host Greece-Arcadia in Geneva on Saturday at 7 pm. If Geneva should advance on Saturday a possible semi-final re-match against Aquinas could be looming. Aquinas handed Geneva their only loss of the season earlier this month.(4) Wayne 61 (13) Canandaigua 44 The 3-15 Canandaigua Braves weren’t expected to be much of a test for the second place finisher in the Finger Lakes East when they met on Wednesday night in Ontario, NY. The Wayne Eagles easily advanced to the next round by defeating Canandaigua Academy by a score of 61-44. Tre Lamora led all scorers with 23 points while Paul Dinehart and Mike Hollenbeck contributed 11 each to the win. Wayne moves to 16-3 on the season while Canandaigua’s campaign ends at 3-16. Wayne will face a 12-7 Greece-Olympia squad on Saturday night at home in Ontario.(9) Franklin 55 (8) Pitt-Sutherland 54 OT (5) Greece Olympia 74 (12) Monroe 63 (10) Greece Arcadia 56 (7) Brighton 54 (3) Aquinas Institute 100 (14) School of the Arts 42 (6) Pitt-Mendon 52 (11) HF-L 48 CLASS B1 Full Class B1 Brackets(8) Waterloo 60 (9) Midlakes 55 An improving Waterloo Indians squad extended their season on Wednesday night by defeating neighboring Midlakes in Waterloo by a score of 60-55. It was the second time the Indians beat Midlakes in the past week as Waterloo defeated the Screaming Eagles in the final regular season meeting to secure homecourt advantage for their sectional matchup. Freshman Nick Stenberg led Jeff Panek’s Indians with 21 points while Thomas France added 19. Another freshman, Jaymin Mateo added 10 points. For Midlakes, Mason Jones had 23 to lead all scorers in his final game in a Midlakes uniform. Waterloo now has to travel to face the #1 seed Batavia on Saturday night at 7 pm.CLASS B2 Full Class B2 Brackets(8) LeRoy 62 (9) Marcus Whitman 46 Another Finger Lakes East team saw their season end on Wednesday night as LeRoy handed Marcus Whitmas a 62-46 loss in the opening round of sectional play in Class B2. Luke Shively scored 17 points and pulled down 6 rebounds in a losing effort. Whitman’s 2012-13 campaign ends with a record of 3-16.CLASS D1 Full Class D1 Brackets(8) Mt.
