NYSGA Men’s Amateur changes 2013 venue

The 2013 NYSGA Men’s Amateur Championship, originally scheduled at Bethpage State Park’s Red Course, has been moved to the Schuyler Meadows Club as a result of an unforeseen scheduling conflict. The championship remains scheduled for the originally announced dates of July 23-25.”Having to switch venues like this is not something we take lightly,” added Bill Moore, NYSGA Executive Director. “Bethpage needed us to change the dates of the championship, which would have resulted in a conflict with a fellow association’s championship. To avoid this, our board decided to pursue an alternate venue and Schuyler Meadows agreed to our request. We are extremely pleased because Schuyler Meadows is tremendous course and facility, and I think the players will be happy with the selection.”The Schuyler Meadows Club is located near the Siena College campus in Loudonville and boasts a demanding Devereux Emmet designed golf course. This will be the first NYS Men’s Amateur Championship hosted by the club. “The Schuyler Meadows Club membership is thrilled to host the 91st playing of the NYSGA Men’s Amateur Championship,” said David Hayes, Green Chairman at Schuyler Meadows. “We welcome the opportunity to showcase our recently implemented Gil Hanse Master Plan and know that every effort will be made so all involved have a fantastic experience.”Although the state amateur won’t be held on Long Island in 2013, where it was last played at Nassau Country Club in 1967, the NYSGA plans to return. “The NYSGA is committed to returning to Long Island in 2015,” Moore added. “We hope to have an announcement in regards to the site later in the year.”
