Former Syracuse University head football coach appeared on Jim Rome’s radio talk show on Monday afternoon shortly before 2:00 pm to talk about his new position as head coach of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. When asked by Rome how his new title as Head Coach of the Buffalo Bill sounded to him, Marrone replied, “It sounds great, I’m ready to go.”Rome asked Marrone if he could have imagined this happening prior to defeating West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 29th.”Absolutely not, that wasn’t on my mind. All my focus and attention was on that last game and all of a sudden these opportunities were presented to me.”Many Syracuse fans are upset that Marrone openly described Syracuse as his “dream job” when first hired there over four years ago. Marrone explained, “Syracuse was my dream job, and I meant that… I’ve moved on from Syracuse to go ahead and take this next experience.””What made me feel good is the people at Syracuse that are excited for me,” was Marrone’s reply to the question if it was tough to leave Syracuse.Marrone, when talking about the Buffalo Bills’ fanbase said, “A lot of the values I have are like the people that are here.”Doug Marrone has built his football career in New York State and told Rome that, “I played high school football in this state, I played college ball in this state, I got my first assistant coach job in this state, I got my first college coaching job in this state, and now I got my first NFL head coaching job in this state.”When asked about a timetable for winning with the Bills, Marrone said, “Nobody is going to put more pressure on us (NFL coaches) than ourselves. I don’t talk about rebuilding. I am excited about working with these players.”The Jim Rome Show airs weekdays on CBS Sports Radio and network member stations.
