Waterloo Crash leaves one dead

Seneca County Sheriff’s report a fatal two car accident at the intersection of Rt. 96 & Brewer Rd. in the town of Waterloo.Jean White age 59 of Story Rd. Waterloo was driving a vehicle north on Brewer Rd. and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Rt. 96. While attempting to cross the intersection her vehicle was struck by an eastbound pick-up truck. The truck was operated by Stephen Lansing, age 70 of Phelps. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on Rt. 96.White was extracted from her vehicle by the Waterloo FD and airlifted to Strong Mem. Hosp. by Mercy Flight where she was later pronounced dead. Lansing and passengers Samantha Merkley, age 11 and Zack Merkley age 9 were examined at the scene and released by North Seneca Ambulance personnel.The involved vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene. A portion of the road was closed for two hours while the Seneca County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the scene. Waterloo and Border City FD’s assisted at the scene.
