5 to hospital after ambulance crash in Waterloo

The Waterloo Police Department investigated a personal injury accident involving a North Seneca Ambulance vehicle and a passenger bus owned by Seneca Cayuga ARC. North Seneca ambulance vehicle was westbound on West Main Street headed to Geneva General Hospital in emergency mode with a patient on board.The ambulance attempted to pass the ARC bus which was also westbound on West Main Street in the Village of Waterloo on the right hand lane. The bus attempted to yield to the right, striking the ambulance causing the ambulance to veer off to the shoulder of the road Striking and breaking a utility pole.Injured at the scene were two North Seneca Ambulance personnel who were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, a third North Seneca Ambulance personnel was transported to Geneva General Hospital for evaluation. The ARC bus driver and sole occupant were transported to Geneva General Hospital for treatment. North Seneca Ambulance personnel that were injured are, Amy L. Kaplan age 22 of Hamburg, NY was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight Central for a possible head injury. Reginald L. Bailey age 43 of Shortsville, NY was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Phelps Ambulance for a possible side injury. The driver of the ambulance, William R. Storrs age 24 of Waterloo, NY was transported to Geneva General Hospital by Finger Lakes Ambulance for a check over as precautionary measure. The Seneca Cayuga ARC bus driver was Patricia A. Putney age 59 of Seneca Falls was transported by North Seneca Ambulance to Geneva General Hospital for possible head and neck injury.NYSEG responded to the scene to repair the damaged utility pole and to restore power to 300 customers. Also assisting at the scene was the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department, Seneca County Sheriffs Department, New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit, Seneca County Fire Police, North Seneca Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, Phelps Ambulance and Mercy Flight Central. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Waterloo Police Department and the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
