Seneca County Sheriff reports that on December Friday at 4:30 pm, deputies responded to a two car personal injury motor vehicle accident at State Route 96A and West River Road in the Town of Fayette. Deputies report a vehicle being operated by Gabriel J. Canino, age 16 of 8295 Hoyt Road Weedsport, was traveling west on West River Road when he failed to yield the right of way at State Route 96A. Canino’s vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a northbound vehicle operated by Jeremy M. Slentz age 30, of 3158 Disinger Road Waterloo. Canino and a passenger, Steven T. Young, age 30, of 107 Washington Street Auburn had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel.Canino and Young were flown out by Mercy Flight. Young was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and Canino was taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse both with head injuries. Slentz was uninjured.Seneca County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction responded to the scene. New York State Police, North Seneca Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, Border City Fire Department, Geneva Fire Department and New York State DOT assisted at the scene.A portion of State Route 96A was shut down during the reconstruction of the accident. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.Charges are still pending and the accident is still under investigation.
