3 arrested trying cash bad checks in Waterloo

12/03/12 at 11:30 P.M. Waterloo Village Police Dept. arrested Vontrell L. Miller, age 23, of 441 Electric Ave., Rochester, N.Y., Lakesha T. Smith, age 22, of 565 Chili Ave. apt. 12, Rochester, N.Y., and a Shamel T. Calvin, age 18, of 211 Garfield St., Rochester, N.Y. for criminal possession of a forged instrument 2nd. (felony), conspiracy 5th., and attempted petit larceny. The three defendants attempted to cash a fraudulent payroll check in the amount of $538.17, at D & M Grocery, 14 Swift St. in the Village of Waterloo.The three defendants fled the scene in a vehicle and were apprehended by the NYSP Thruway Division on the NYS Thruway. NYSP issued the driver of the vehicle, Vontrell Miller, a traffic ticket for operating a motor vehicle out of class, and Shamel Calvin was issued an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana.The three suspects were turned over to Waterloo Police Dept. and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Dept.Miller, Smith, and Calvin were arraigned in the Village of Waterloo Court, and were all committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bail bond. The three defendants are to appear in the Village of Waterloo Court at a later date.
