So. Seneca seniors chosen for All-State Band

South Seneca Middle/High School Band Teacher, Raymond Zajac is very proud to announce the acceptance of two South Seneca seniors, Cynthia Becker and Vivian Becker to the All-State Symphonic Band. These fine young ladies, with an impressive work ethic and compelling talent, will attend the NYSSMA (New York State Student Music Association) conference in Rochester for the November 29-December 2nd conference to rehearse and then perform with a select group of musicians on Sunday, December 2nd at 10:00am at the Rochester Convention Center. The NYSSMA conference is the premier event that brings music educators together from all over the state along with all of the selected musicians for a weekend of amazing performances. To appreciate how incredible this honor is you would have to understand that thousands of students auditioned last spring at the NYSSMA solo festivals all over New York State. From those thousands of auditions only about 500 students are judiciously selected to the Vocal Jazz, Instrumental Jazz, Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Women’s Choir, Mixed Chorus, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra. Imagine the tremendous honor it is to be selected from the competition all across New York State! It speaks volumes about the students who were selected and illustrates a conscientious work ethic, dedication and commitment in their musical growth. South Seneca Middle/High School Band Director, Ray Zajac, will accompany these exceptional students, commenting, “this is a remarkable accomplishment and testament to our two selected students and their talent.” He added, “I am very proud of Cynthia and Vivian for reaching this honor and equally impressed by how much they have been positively influenced by music.Cynthia, playing the bassoon and Vivian, playing the clarinet since fourth grade are also members of the prestigious 100-member Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra made up of accomplished musicians from the upstate New York area. These talented seniors are also very active in the South Seneca Concert Band, Marching Band, Senior High Jazz Ensemble, Senior High Chorus, Senior High Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Drama Club and the Finger Lakes Community Band. Both Cynthia and Vivian are looking at music colleges for their future plans and both are considering musical careers in performing. They have visited Ithaca College as well as traveled to Indiana University and Michigan State for consideration.
