SFPD Officer recieves 2012 Stop-DWI award

The Seneca Falls Police Department is proud to announce that six year veteran Police Officer Michael C. Poole has received a 2012 Recognition Award from the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). This recognition program is supported by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Officer Poole is among only twenty-two individuals statewide to be selected for this prestigious award. Seneca Falls Police Chief Stu Peenstra submitted the recommendation in September of 2012 and the application was endorsed by District Attorney Barry Porsch and the Seneca County STOP-DWI Coordinator, Chief Doyle L. Marquart. This recognition is based on the officers’ 2011 DWI enforcement activity. In 2011, Officer Poole had a total of 35 Driving While Intoxicated arrests. Of these 35 total arrests in 2011, five were Felony’s, four were DWAI-Drugs, and eight had additional drug related charges associated with the DWI arrest. All of Officer Poole’s thirty five 2011 DWI charges led to convictions by the Seneca County District Attorney’s Office. Officer Poole has an outstanding ability in observing traffic violations resulting in quality traffic stops, many of which have led to driving while intoxicated arrests. Officer Poole’s tenacious interview and investigative skills during these roadside investigations have not only revealed driving while intoxicated arrests, but additional criminal arrests and drug seizures. These quality traffic stops have led to increased safety on our roads, thus decreasing property damage and personal injury, and ultimately saving people’s lives. Officer Poole has been the Seneca Falls Police Department “Officer of the Year” for Stop-DWI for the past four years. In these four years, he has led all law enforcement agencies in Seneca County for DWI Enforcement. Officer Poole is on course for his fifth consecutive year by leading both the Seneca Falls Police Department and all Law Enforcement agencies in Seneca County on DWI related arrests in 2012. Officer Poole will receive this award at a luncheon on November 13th, 2012 in Schenectady, NY. All of the 2012 award recipients will be honored at this event, which is intended to raise awareness regarding the critical importance of highway safety and impaired driving issues.
