Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into a homicide which occurred at approximately 6:00pm last evening at 10295 Egypt Rd. in the Town of Conquest.At 5:55pm the Cayuga County 911 Center received a 911 call from Henry Davis Jr. of that same address who reported the he and his live in girlfriend, Brenda Newkirk, were involved in a domestic that was presently verbal however that he had been assaulted by Newkirk earlier in the incident. The 911 Dispatcher maintained telephone contact while two Cayuga County Sheriff Deputies responded to the call. The 911 Dispatcher spoke with both Davis and Newkirk giving them both instructions to remain separated while awaiting patrols arrival. At 6:02pm the 911 Dispatcher lost contact with Davis. At 6:12pm the 911 Dispatcher received a telephone call from Brenda Newkirk who told the Dispatcher that she had shot Davis. Upon the Deputies arrival at 6:26pm Newkirk was taken into custody and Henry Davis Jr. age 42 was discovered deceased inside the residence.Brenda M. Newkirk age 40 of 10295 Egypt Lane was subsequently charged with Murder in the Second Degree. Newkirk was arraigned in the Town of Conquest Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail. There is no known history of Domestic Disputes between these two subjects. The investigation is continuing. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office, Conquest Fire Department, Conquest Ambulance and Rural Metro Ambulance.
