Geneva loses on last second FG in Class B Final

Livonia’s Dustin Ayers booted a 37 yard field goal through the wind and rain on Saturday afternoon at Sahlen’s Stadium, on the last play of the game, effectively ending the Geneva Panthers undefeated 2012 varsity football campaign.In a hard fought contest in deplorable conditions, Livonia outscored Geneva 9-6 in the second half to claim the 2012 Section V Class B championship.Shane Sweeney, the prolific Panther QB who led Geneva’s vaunted aerial attack this season, was limited in the rain and wind to 11-24 passing and 155 yards passing. Sweeney did rush for 86 yards and a touchdown in what was his last game as a Geneva Panther. Sweeney’s varsity career ends with him at the top of Section V’s all time career passing touchdown list, as he surpassed Canandaigua’s Billy Scharr for the top spot earlier this season.Geneva led early, 14-0 after the first quarter but Livonia came back and scored 14 unanswered in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime.In the end, it came down to Ayers’ 37 yard field goal as the clock expired that lifted Livonia to the title.Livonia’s Derek Bishop ran for 141 yards on 29 carriers and a touchdown.For Geneva, Josh Jackson ran for 103 yard and 2 touchdowns.Geneva’s 2012 football season ends at a mark of 8-1.
