Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at 4:35am this morning near the intersection of NYS Rt. 5 and Depot Rd. in the Town of Sennett. Timothy J. Walsh Jr. age 20 of North St. Auburn, N.Y., operating a 2010 Kia westbound on Rt. 5, crossed into the path of and collided with a 2008 Freightliner Tractor Trailer being operated by James E. Feltenberger age 62 of Penns Valley Rd Spring Mills, Pa. who was traveling east on Rt. 5.Walsh Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.Feltenberger was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to Auburn Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.The cause of the accident is under investigation. At the present time heavy wreckers are in the process of removing the vehicles from the scene and are coordinating with personnel from NYS DOT, NYS DEC, Cayuga County Highway and the Sennett Fire Department to clean up the scene which consists of a large amount of debris and spilled diesel fuel.The tractor trailer was loaded with lime which is not hazardous and was contained within the tanker. Following cleanup, the Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team will conduct their investigation. NYS Rt. 5 will remain closed for several hours while these processes are completed. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Weedsport Ambulance, Sennett Fire Department, Rural Metro Ambulance, Auburn Fire Department, Cayuga County Emergency Management, NYS Department of Transportation, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Cayuga County Highway, New York State Police along with their Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Auburn City Police, the Cayuga County Coroner and the Cayuga County 911 Center.
