Sheriff David Gould reports that members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to South Hadcock Drive in the Village of Fair Haven Monday evening after a resident called Cayuga County 911 and reported that a man at a residence there was threatening to harm himself.Upon the arrival of deputies, the male retreated into his residence and refused to come out. A perimeter was established and members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiations Team responded and spoke with the subject until he surrendered at 8:44 PM. The subject was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening, self inflicted injuries and brought to Auburn Community Hospital for further treatment. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cayuga County 911 Center, the New York State Police, the Fair Haven Fire Department and the Fair Haven Ambulance.James J Kays (age 33) of 14823 Hadcock Drive, Sterling New York was the subject ultimately arrested following the short stand-off Monday evening.Mr. Kays was treated and released from Auburn Community Hospital for several self inflicted lacerations. He was then arraigned in the Town of Sterling Court for Harassment 2 (Violation) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor) from a Domestic Incident that occurred earlier in the day. He was committed to the Cayuga County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
