Seneca Falls Farmers Market Report 8/1

If you have been dragging your feet about getting some great fresh veggies, fruit, baked goods and plants, wait no longer! Starting at 9AM Wednesday in People’s Park stop by and buy fresh, local produce and other locally made products. If you are a senior, come and see the representative from Office for the Aging to see if you are eligible to receive Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons good to spend on fresh fruit and vegetables at the market! Eligible seniors receive $20 in checks to spend at the market and all of the produce vendors in Seneca Falls accept these checks! WIC recipients have already received their Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons so come down and shop this week. If you are a food stamp recipient you can also come to the market manager’s tent and use your EBT card to get tokens to spend on any food stamp eligible items at the market. What a great way to stretch your food dollars!Only have time during your lunch hour? No problem. Dave & Rita’s Farm Market will be there again serving up a hearty, delicious lunch. If you haven’t tried Dave & Rita’s meals you are missing some of the best food in Seneca County. Vendors will be set up until 1:30PM with fresh baked breads, cookies, macaroons, pastries, cakes and granola, farm fresh eggs, cheese from 5 local creameries, potted plants, hand-crafted jewelry, heirloom lavender in vintage linen sachets, chemical free chicken, duck and lamb, goat milk, yogurt and cheese and even handmade chairs! There are beautiful fresh beets, carrots, beans, tomatoes, sweet corn, blueberries, summer squash, eggplant, peppers of all kinds and plums and apricots! We are reaching the height of the season. Don’t miss out!Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extensions’ nutrition intern Carianne Deary will be on hand serving up tastings of fresh baked scones (either blueberry or peach depending on the baker’s mood when she gets ready to bake!) It is her last day at the Market before she starts a real job so stop by, wish her well and get the recipe for her awesome scones. Then go buy the fruit of your choice to go in it!Talk to the people who grow and produce the items you buy.
