Today City Manager Douglas Selby announced the appointment of Captain Brian Neagle as Auburn’s new Chief of Police. Captain Neagle will be replacing outgoing Chief Gary Giannotta who has been with the Auburn Police Department 31 years, 16 of those as chief. Captain Neagle is a 27 year veteran of the Auburn Police Department. He has served in patrol and training positions and led the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force. Selby stated that this was a difficult selection process because he had three highly qualified candidates from within the department. Captain Neagle said that he is excited about his new role and looks forward to working with department employees, the city manager and the citizens of Auburn to provide responsive, efficient and professional police services. The chief of police oversees a department of 65 officers and staff with an annual budget of $8.5 million. Terms of employment for the new chief are being finalized. Captain Neagle will take office on August 1, 2012.
