Titanic opens on 7/12 at Hangar Theatre

Ithaca, NY (07/03/12) – Honoring the 100th Anniversary of the legendary maritime event, the Hangar presents a striking new production of TITANIC: The Musical. Winner of five Tony awards in 1997 – including Best Musical – the Hangar’s Titanic will feature several members of the original Broadway cast, playing July 13 – July 28.The story of the “unsinkable” ship TITANIC remains the landmark disaster of the last century. The events of the early hours of April 15, 1912, continue to intrigue, disturb, and fascinate the public to this day.With a Tony-winning book by Peter Stone (1776, The Will Rogers Follies, Woman of the Year), Titanic is based on the true stories of the officers, crew, and passengers onboard that ill-fated night. The music and lyrics are by Maury Yeston (Nine, Phantom), who won the Tony for Best Original score. Directed by original cast member Don Stephenson (Of Mice and Men, 39 Steps), with musical direction is by Ian Weinberger (Death Takes a Holiday,Anything Goes, Pride and Prejudice) and choreographed by Liza Gennaro (The Most Happy Fella), Hangar’s Titanic will truly be a night to remember.Titanic’s cast includes original Broadway cast members Alma Cuervo (Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret), Drew McVety (Billy Elliot, Sunday in the Park with George, Spamalot), and William Youmans (Finians’ Rainbow, Wicked) as well as Philip Hoffman (From last season’s Ever So Humble), Christianne Tisdale (Beauty and the Beast) and the Tony nominated star of Jekyll and Hyde Robert Cuccioli.The the cast also includes Will Boyajian, Sarah Charles, Xander Chauncey, Katie Drinkard, Jeremy Ellisonn Gladstone, Elizabeth Hake, Joneal Joplin, Greg Kamp, John Langley, Matt Madden, Christian Palmer, Noah Plomgren, Ariella Serur, and David Studwell.Artistic Director Peter Flynn stated “Last year, the Hangar presented a wildly successful reconceived production of Ragtime, presenting this historically significant musical in a new and imaginative fashion.
