The annual Geneva Firefighters Parade will be held on Saturday, July 7 in downtown Geneva. The parade will step off promptly at 7 p.m.The formation area will be on the corner of Castle and Geneva Streets. The parade will proceed up Castle St. to Main, south on Main to Seneca St., down Seneca to Exchange St., and north on Exchange St. to the finish in the Exchange St. Parking Lot. The reviewing stand will be on Exchange St. near the former Cinema Theater. Following the parade the public is invited to the Sons of Italy Lodge on Prospect Ave. where there will be refreshments, games and entertainment.This year’s parade is expected to be one of largest in recent years with approximately 60 marching units. The parade’s marching bands will include the Savannah Cellar Savers, the Marion Red Caps, the Clyde Saxton Band, the Fairport Fire Dept. Marching Band and the Gates Keystone Club Police Pipes and Drum Corp.Units from all over the area including fire departments and military color guards along with many community groups, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, will also be in line. The “Red Knights” motorcycle group, made up entirely of firefighters, is also returning to this year’s parade. Several of the participating fire departments will bringing new fire apparatus to display to the public. In addition, other departments will be bringing antique apparatus to show. Also participating this year will be the Geneva Red Wings and the Geneva Twins baseball teams.Asst. Fire Chief Kevin Powers is the parade chairman. He is assisted by a large committee of volunteer firefighters. City Police will be in charge of traffic control.
