Megaphones handed out to fans before Monday’s game against the Newark Pilots at Dunn Field proved to be pretty handy. The Pioneers would break through in the sixth inning putting six runs on the board on their way to an 11-7 victory against the Pilots. Elmira picked up their first win against Newark this season and did so in front of 3,581 fans packed into Historic Dunn Field.Trailing 3-1 heading into the home half of the second inning, the Pioneers would charge back cutting the Pilots lead to 3-2. Two more runs would score after a single by Clark Wise (Wofford) allowed both Tyler McIntyre (Central Connecticut) and Zac Bellinger (VCU) to cross the plate giving Elmira a 4-3 lead.Elmira wouldn’t look back the rest of the night as they would solidify their lead in the sixth inning by batting around leading to six runs scoring including a bases loaded walk with Aaron Nardone (Delaware St.) at the plate. Justin Bhatti (Norfolk St.) shinned on the night for Elmira as he registered seven innings pitched allowing four runs on seven hits.With the win Bhatti improves to 2-2 on the season and McIntyre went 2-3 with two RBI. Ty Yesensky (Old Dominion) went 3-4 with one RBI in the winning effort.
