The Seneca County Sheriffs Office reports Deputies responded to a fire that occurred at a Sawmill behind the residence at 5004 RT 414 in the Town of Varick on 6/30/2012 at 1:58 AM. The owner of the Sawmill is Ruben Z. Stoltzfus, age 50 of the same address. The cause of the fire in unknown but suspected to be an overheated bearing from a wood saw. The property was insured by Amish Aid, and an approximate loss of $40,000 was incurred. Fire Departments on scene included Varick, Fayette, Canoga, Romulus, Ovid, Interlaken, Lodi, Waterloo, Seneca Falls, and Border City. South Seneca Ambulance was also on scene.
