Drunk mom hits Geneva home with car – FingerLakes1.com Archive

On Saturday evening a motor vehicle drove into a home located at 9 Middle Street in the City of Geneva. Based upon criminal and motor vehicle crash investigation by Geneva Police Department in this matter (Shanna M. Downing 24 YOA, 79 Andes Avenue, Geneva) was arrested for Felony Driving while Intoxicated – With Child, as at the time of the crash, Ms. Downing was with her two children 4 & 5 Years old in the vehicle and was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She was charged under Leandra’s Law.Leandra’s Law (Child Passenger Protection Act) is a New York State law making it an automatic felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person age 15 or younger inside the vehicle, and setting the blood alcohol content, or BAC, at 0.08. The bill was unanimously passed by the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate and then signed into law by Gov. David Paterson on November 18, 2009.[1]RThe suspect and children in this matter were transported by Finger Lakes Ambulance to Geneva General Hospital for a check over with no injuries present. The driver in this matter was held on 3000/6000 bail and placed in the custody of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department.
