Glens Falls beats Pilots to end Newark’s streak

Glens Falls, NY – The Glens Falls Golden Eagles put up a combination of fantastic relief pitching and a steady flow of offense throughout their 5-4 win over the Newark Pilots. The Golden Eagles struck quickly in the bottom of the first when Mike Vigliarolo flew out to center to bring in Emmanuel Forcier (New Mexico JC). With the tie broken Newark pushed back, picking up all four of their runs in the top of the second. Josh Perez (Miss. College) helped tie it up when he stole two bases and was then driven home by Adam Grace (Erie C.C.). Following some fielder’s choice miscues by the Golden Eagles, Brent Langston (Delta State) got a three RBI double to push the Pilots into the lead. From there on out Tayler Saucedo (Tacoma C.C.) was fantastic allowing only two more hits through the fifth inning. In the fourth Buddy Putnam (South Florida) led off the inning, down 4-3 and connected for his first home run of the season to tie the game.Saucedo later turned the ball over to Tacoma Community College teammate, and new Glens Falls teammate, Ryan Skoubo (Tacoma C.C.). He pitched two plus innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts in his debut with the team, before being substituted for Jared Cheek. In the bottom of the seventh, Ross Kivett (Kansas State) single-handedly helped the team pull ahead when he took off for second. The throw from catcher Adam Grace was mishandled by Josh Crowdus (Delta State) at short. Kivett took off and was safe at third. The next pitch from Jimmy Wagner (Ithaca) was wide of home plate and got away from Grace, which allowed Kivett to score the eventual game winner.Cheek closed the game and was flawless getting all six batters he faced out including four strikeouts. Skoubo earns the win in his first appearance with the Golden Eagles and Wagner takes his first loss of the season.
