Sunday afternoon drowning at Fair Haven State Park

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unresponsive person at Fair Haven State Park at shortly before 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.Marcos A. Peralta, 27,of Oswego, NY jumped from the pier into the adjacent water. Peralta was with several friends and family members who had also jumped into the water. Witnesses indicate that Peralta appeared to struggle to keep above water and began to panic. Several members of his party attempted to assist Peralta but despite their efforts he became unresponsive in the water.Peralta was eventually able to be removed from the water at which time efforts were made to revive him. Those resuscitation efforts continued throughout his transport to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead.Assisting the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the New York State Park Police, New York State Police, Fair Haven Fire Department, Fair Haven Village Ambulance and the Cayuga County Emergency Management Office.The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
