Watertown scored five runs in the first two innings and received eight strong frames from starting pitcher Rene Solis (St. Mary’s, Texas) to beat Newark 9-1 on Wednesday night at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.Riley Norton (E. Oklahoma St.) led off the bottom of the first with a double and that started a stretch where eight batters came to the plate in each of the first two innings for the Wizards. Newark starter Phillip Flach (Samford) was pulled after that. He went two innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits and walked four.The big blow, though, came in the sixth. The Wizards scored four runs on three hits, to break the game open. Cole Gleason (Wabash Valley CC) had the big hit with a two-run double. Gleason finished 2-5 with two doubles, two RBI’s and two runs scored.Solis gave up one run on five hits and struck out four. Watertown plays an exhibition game at the Fairgrounds tomorrow against the NYCBL’s Syracuse Salt Catz.
