More details in Fair Haven ATV shooting incident

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one person in connection with a shooting incident which occurred during an altercation over ATV’s on a Village Street. Charged is: Edward H. Moriarty age 75 of 14389 S. Lake St. Fair Haven. Moriarty is charged with Misdemeanor counts of Reckless Endangerment 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, Menacing 2nd and Criminal Mischief 4th . He has been issued appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sterling Court on June 20th at 7:00pm. The investigation revealed the following:That at approximately 1:20pm Richard W. Greene age 25 of 4311 Berners Court Liverpool, N.Y. and his associate Larry D. Thomas Jr. age 28 of 89 Dutch Rd. Central Square, N.Y. were riding their ATV’s down S. Lake St. in the Village of Fair Haven heading toward the County Trail. The pair were confronted and stopped in the roadway by Orest M Logusz age 59 who resides in the same home as Edward Moriarty. Logusz began chastising the ATV riders for riding on the roadway and for the noise they were creating and the confrontation soon became mutually verbally abusive. At that time Edward Moriarty retrieved a .44 magnum semi automatic rifle from inside his home and fired one shot toward Larry Thomas Jr. which struck a helmet which Thomas was holding by his side in his hand at the time. The bullet went through the helmet and either the bullet or shrapnel from the helmet struck Thomas in the leg causing a minor injury. Thomas was treated at the scene by the Fair Haven Fire Department however did not require transport to a hospital.All of Moriarty’s firearms have been seized. The investigation is continuing.
