On June 11th the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported drowning on Cayuga Lake in the Town of Romulus. Deputies report that just after 6 PM they received a report of man, who was boating just north of Deans Cove State Boat Launch, with other family members, had gone swimming without a personal flotation device. It was reported by witnesses that the man was unable to return to the boat and disappeared from view. The Seneca County Sherriff’s Office Dive team along with Fire Department dive teams from Seneca Falls, Border City, Cayuga, Union Springs, and Aurora responded. Fire Departments from Romulus and Varick also responded along with South Seneca Ambulance and Seneca County Emergency Management. At About 8:10 pm Sheriff’s Office dive team members recovered the body of Emanuel T. Swarey, age 20 of 2309 South Street Ovid, NY. Swarey was located approximately 200 feet from the shore in about 20 Ft of water. Swarey was pronounced dead at the scene by a Seneca County Coroner. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
