Seneca Substance Abuse Coalition Town Hall on 6/11

The Seneca County Substance Abuse Coalition will sponsor a Town Hall meeting on Monday, June 11 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Elks Lodge at 2221 River Road, Seneca Falls. Residents of Seneca Falls and Waterloo Districts (and others who missed the data release on April 23 due to the snow storm) are invited to join your town and village officials to review the data from Youth and Community Surveys completed in summer/fall 2011, with the goal of increasing awareness about the negative consequences of underage drinking and hearing about proven steps a community can take to prevent underage drinking. Attendees will hear from community members impacted by underage drinking, review data collected by Diane Laws, Data Coordinator for the Seneca County Substance Abuse Coalition, and begin to discuss action steps in response. As Diane said, “Many community members responded to the surveys – come now for the ‘reveal’ of the results, and to share your ideas as concerned individuals who want to take action!” Please note – while this town hall is being planned for the adult community, youth meetings and activities in the future will be a part of the solution. This event and a similar Town Hall held April 23 in the south end of the county, are supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in collaboration with the federal government’s Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage and is made possible by the Prevention First-New York grant.
