Geneva man charged with arson after stand-off

On Sunday morning at 8:30 am, the Geneva Police Department responded to 53 Lewis Street APT 03, for a report of an emotionally distressed male who was throwing items out on the street from his third floor residence.Upon arrival it was determined that the suspect was extremely agitated and had barricaded himself into the residence. Negotiations were commenced with the suspect and Ontario County Emergency Response Team was called in to assist Geneva Police Department with the matter.The apartment building and surrounding areas were evacuated; Geneva Fire, Finger Lakes Ambulance and New York State Electric & Gas were called in to secure the scene.At approximately 1100, Ontario County Emergency Response Team made entry into the residence and took the suspect into custody with no further incident. The suspect in this matter was transported to Geneva General Hospital for evaluation.No members of the public or police were injured in this successful coordinated operation.Several Felony Charges are pending by the Geneva Police Department against the suspect in this matter.SUSPECT IN CUSTODY- Altony (NMN) Campbell DOB 12.4.1955, 53 Lewis Street, Geneva, NY 14456.UPDATE: 9:00 am 3.12.2012 – The suspect in this matter was arrested and charged with Arson in the Third Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree & Criminal Possession of A Weapon in the Third Degree. He was arraigned, held without bail and is currently in the Care and Custody of Ontario County Sheriff’s Department.
