On Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 8:50 PM, the Waterloo Fire and Police Department’s responded to a house fire at 30 East River Street in the Village of Waterloo. The house was occupied at the time of the fire by the home owner Roger Barto and another resident who both escaped without injury. The residence sustained moderate fire, smoke and water damage. The Waterloo fire department was assisted by the Border City Fire Department, Seneca Falls Fire Department, Geneva Fire Department and Magee Fire Department was on standby. The North Seneca Ambulance, Red Cross, Seneca County Codes and NYSEG also responded to the scene. A member of the Waterloo Fire Department was taken to Geneva General Hospital by North Seneca Ambulance for smoke inhalation and later released. The Seneca County Fire Investigation Team responded to the fire and is investigating the cause of the fire. At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The residence was insured.
