The Cancer Services Program of Chemung and Schuyler Counties, along with Schuyler Hospital, has teamed up with Schuyler County Fire Departments for the month of March, in honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.Schuyler County Fire Departments have been displaying blue wreaths over the holidays for fire prevention awareness. When there is a structure fire in Schuyler County, one of the blue lights is changed to red.Instead of turning a blue light red, the Cancer Services Program and Schuyler Hospital want to stop the internal flame of colorectal cancer before it starts. Men and women over the age of 50, or with a family history of colon cancer, should be screened. For those with no health insurance, the Cancer Services Program offers free take-home kits. Also, for those who qualify, the Cancer Services Program may fund a colonoscopy.Get your questions answered about colorectal and other cancers, and how the Cancer Services Program can help, when the Cancer Services Program brings an informational table and free take-home kits to these local fire departments:Valois-Logan-Hector March 11, 2012 8-10 a.m.Monterey March 14, 2012 7-8:30 p.m.Watkins Glen March 19, 2012 7-8:30 p.m.Tyrone March 21, 2012 7-8:30 p.m.Odessa March 26, 2012 7-8:30 p.m.For more information, contact the Cancer Services Program at 535-9174 for Schuyler County, or 737-2028 for Chemung County.
