SC United Way ’12 campaign goes over the top

You did it! Your generosity pushed our Seneca County United Way 2012 campaign Over the Top!“Several months ago, we asked people to dig a little deeper and give a little more, if it was within their means; and they did,” said Dr. Frank Nicchi, this year’s co-chair with his wife, Carol. “We are pleased and honored to thank our community for responding and raising the bar for the United Way of Seneca County 2012 Campaign. With the support of thousands of individual, corporate, and small business donors, we set an all-time high fundraising record.”The first donation to bring the campaign over the goal of $350,000 was a new fundraiser sponsored by The Deerhead Inn and owners Jim Gustafson and Adrienne Burgess. One evening in January they donated 50% of all food proceeds to United Way of Seneca County. More than 140 guests and restaurant employees responded, bringing in $1,500 for the campaign. “We owe this success to our loyal donors and our many hard-working volunteers including our Board of Directors,” said Dave Swenson, United Way Board President. After nearly reaching its goal for 10 years, Swenson said this year the board made an extra commitment to support the effort to reach the $350,000 target with new fundraisers and new energy. “The requests for funding are always more than we receive, but this gives us a chance to make just a little more difference for our community,” he added. The United Way listened to the community members and invested its dollars where there would be the most impact on the greatest needs. New goals focus on issues around education, health and financial stability. Additional dollars were raised from Pot of Gold bell ringing by volunteers for St. Patrick’s Day at two locations, increasing ticket sales for the Taste of Spring event, selling food at Empire Farm Days and generous donations from the employees at many businesses especially Huntington Living Center, ITT/Xylem, schools, community members and funded Partner Agencies. With one more outstanding employee campaign, the final number should push even higher. For those wanting to add to this success, donations can be made online at uwseneca.org, by mailing checks to PO Box 623, Waterloo, NY 13165 or calling 315.539.1135.The United Way of Seneca County will be celebrating their campaign success and outstanding volunteers at their Annual Meeting on February 21st, 7 PM at the Holiday Inn – Waterloo/Seneca Falls.
