Two car accident at Fayette-Varick town line

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on January 19th 2012 Deputies investigated a two car personal injury crash that occurred at the intersection of State Rte 96 and State Rte 336 at the Fayette/ Varick town lines.Deputies report that a vehicle being operated by Arthur J. Cowan, age 63 of Ovid NY was south bound on State Rte 96 when a vehicle operated by Ross C. Reynolds, age 20, of Romulus NY attempted to cross the intersection west bound on State Rte 336. The Reynolds vehicle was struck in the passenger side and spun to the west side of the intersection and facing back to the east, from which it came. The Cowan vehicle came to rest in the middle of the south bound lane of State Rte 96, on its driver’s side and pointed in a north easterly direction. Cowan, who was alone at the time of the crash was trapped in the vehicle for a short time and was assisted out by the first Deputy on the scene. Reynolds, who was also alone at the time of the collision, was not entrapped however he was injured and remained in the vehicle until extricated by North Seneca Ambulance and Fayette Fire personnel. Cowen was treated at the scene by South Seneca Ambulance and taken to Geneva General for a check over. He was treated and laterreleased from the hospital. Reynolds was taken by North Seneca Ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and was treated for suspected internal injuries. He has been released at this time. Reynolds has been issued a summons for Failure to Yield the Right of way and is to appear in the Town of Varick court on Feb 22 2012. Both Cowan and Reynolds were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision and Sheriff’s Deputies credit that with the survivable injuries sustained by both drivers.
